I posed several questions to Jodie, and here is some valuable advice she shared. Small business tip and to get you started.
Q1. Was there a system or program that made your life easy or hard?
I’m a no fuss type of person. I’ve been using Canva for a while for visual concepts and recently started implementing Programa for specifications. Both are user friendly & present the client with a no fuss interface. I grew up in the 70’s watching my Dad design & build houses.
Mum would put together the concept with samples and collate a mood board. Technology has increased the scope in this industry, but when presenting the dream, tactile representations always win.
Q2. Was there a lightbulb moment, when you thought wow if I’d only known this before?
I turned 50 and realised that I was more capable than I had been giving myself credit for
Q3.What’s the one thing you would tell your younger self when starting out?
“Focus on the step in-front of you, not the whole staircase”. You don’t need to have it all figured out to begin. Just back yourself and take the first step.
Focus on mastering the basics instead of the ticking off the end goal. Never stop learning and surround yourself with people who inspire you. Creative people are fun to be around. You will never be bored in this industry.
